Max's Allegheny Tavern has anchored Pittsburgh's North Side since 1903, back when this was still Allegheny City, its own city before Pittsburgh annexed it in 1907. I spent an afternoon there reading the North Side history books the owner keeps for sale, eating good German food, surrounded by genuinely kind people. If you love the North Side, this place is a must-visit.
